I thought I should dedicate a page to all the poetry that you have studied this semester so you can look back at it in the future.

If you were a sailboat

If you're a cowboy I would trail you,
If you're a piece of wood I'd nail you to the floor.
If you're a sailboat I would sail you to the shore.

If you're a river I would swim you,
If you're a house I would live in you all my days.
If you're a preacher I'd begin to change my ways.

If I was in jail I know you'd spring me
If I was a telephone you'd ring me all day long
If was in pain I know you'd sing me soothing songs.

If I was hungry you would feed me
If I was in darkness you would lead me to the light
If I was a book I know you'd read me every night

Dear God

Dear God how old will I be, when the angel in black, will come for me?

What will he say when I ask for one more day?

Just another day… Just another day

My life, my love — sitting beside,

Face, wrung out in tears, that she can’t bear to hide.

Another moment I’ll ask, and none left to live

I’ll beg and plead, for another moment to give

My son’s so old now, walking away

Ball, glove in hand, with no one to play, 

Growing up sooner, than he deserves.

Leader of the house now, with three mouths to serve.

Those pretty young girls, the pride of our lives.

When, will I see the day, they become somebody’s wives? 

No grandbabies, to hold, when my time has come.

No faces to compare, for I won’t be there.

All the things I regret, I haven’t done

With my girls, my wife, and my handsome son.

The time wasted, and lost on all those shows.

Will I make it to heaven, only God knows

Only God knows.

Social expectation _ _ _ _ _ _ us all inside

What you have should be what I want

Cos what I have just aint alright

The _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I wear, the way I _ _ _ _ my hair

What’s expected of them all

To get to the _ _ _ don’t matter

You gotta brace the _ _ _ _ _, the norms to conform

Get what you want is gonna kill us all

Beyond the _ _ _ _ that you see

There’s so much _ _ _ _ to me

And I feel best when my soul is _ _ _ _

They tell me this is the _ _ _

That I need to reform

If I continue to stray,

I’m gonna start up a storm

Wear this, _ _ _ _ _ that, like this, not that

Don’t dare lose track or you’ll fall way back
