Funny Moments

Arabizi

On the topic of trends in KSA, one of them was the use of Arabizi (writing Arabic with English alphabet and numbers)
As clever as a non-Arab, native English teacher can be - I thought I understood the derivation of Arabizi.

Teacher:   Oh I get it! Arabizi means that this way it is 'easy' to write Arabic with English.
Students:  (Laughing. Almost crying from laughter)
Teacher:   What's funny? Isn't that true?
Students:  No... English in Arabic is called 'Inglizi' - so it's a combination of Arab + Inglizi
Teacher:   Oh (embarrassed).

Wear somebody?

Again, talking about trends in Saudi Arabia, one of them was the fashion of transparent tops.

Teacher: Do you think it's a good trend?
Students: No...Yes (a mixture of responses)
Nedaa: Sometimes it's o.k. because some girls wear somebody underneath..
Teacher: Somebody!
Everyone: (laughing)
Nedaa: Something, wear something under the top! (thinking - how could I say that!)

If I were a h______, you would feed me

Remember doing the poem 'If you were a cowboy, I would trail you'?
And remember the sentence above which you had to complete with the help of the number of letters and the context?
Most of you guessed the correct word - hungry.
Nedaa (as unusual as she is) guessed 'horse' - out of the blue
I saw this and it made me laugh so much , I didn't want her to be corrected. Instead, I purposely chose her to give her answer for this sentence :)
Nedaa was confused (and embarrassed) when everyone started laughing - only until she realised how the correct answer made so much more sense than being a horse!

Back to the Board - SPAM

There are really some unforgettable funny moments.
I remember once my teacher made us play that game "When she writes words on the board and one girl from the group has to guess what the word and others have to explain it to her ", so we were so excited and we wanted to win 'especially me' and Minal's turn came (Minal is sweetest girl in the class she is so cute and so quiet). So I said, "Leave her to me, don't freak her out, I will treat her softly."Then I explained the word 'spam' to herI said, so quietly, "Manal. look you have g mail , there is inbox and sent and ??! . word like junk"She said, "unimportant ??!"I said excitedly, "YES and...??!"The girls were getting more excited and I think she heard the word but not clearly. She said: "SAM?!". The other group said the right word.Me, being wrathful said: "SAM IN YOUR EYES ..!!All my group laugh so hard because the way of treated her changed very fast :D
